How Long Does It Take to Build a Website?

Right after price, this is the question I hear most, and it's a fair one. You've decided to get a website, and now you want to know when it'll actually be live. Here's a realistic timeline, and the honest reasons it sometimes takes longer than the building itself.

The short answer

For a small business site, most projects land somewhere between one and four weeks. A clean one-page site can be ready in about a week. A full multi-page business site usually runs two to four weeks. A Shopify store takes a bit longer, since there are products, payments, and shipping to set up. Those are typical ranges, not promises, and a clear quote comes with a realistic timeline for your specific project.

What actually takes the time

A website comes together in a few phases, and each one takes a little time:

  • Planning: a short conversation about your goals, your pages, and what you want visitors to do.
  • Design and build: the part people picture, laying out and building the actual pages.
  • Content: getting your words, photos, and details in place.
  • Review and launch: your look-over, final tweaks, and going live.

The part that slows most projects down

Here's the honest bit: the holdup is almost never the building. It's the content. Waiting on photos, copy, a logo, or a business owner who's slammed with actual work is what stretches a two-week project into two months. It's completely understandable, running a business doesn't pause because you're building a website, but it's the single biggest factor in how fast yours goes live.

How to keep it fast

  • Gather your photos and any existing copy before we start, even rough versions.
  • Have your logo and brand colors handy, or let me know you'd like help with those.
  • Pick one person to give feedback, so approvals don't get stuck in a group chat.
  • Reply to review requests when you can; quick turnarounds keep the momentum going.

Do those, and a small business site really can go from first call to live in a week or two. If you're ready to get started, reach out and I'll walk you through exactly what your timeline would look like.
